Born on 3/9/1933 and passed away peacefully at the Epworth Hospital, Geelong, on Thursday 21/4/2022 at 10pm.
Ray was born in Camperdown, Victoria to Sarah and Charles Schmitt (both dec). Ray was a brother to Peggy (dec).
Ray passed away at 88 years old and was a much loved resident of Barongarook Gardens, Colac, since March 2021. Gardening and breeding boxer dogs was a love of his and following competition cycling was a huge part of his life.
Ray will be sadly missed by great friends and family.

  5. Poppy Ray ! The last few years haven’t been the greatest for you in and out of hospital. Now you can Rest In Peace. I will always cherish the memories we had together when I was younger teaching me to play pool, playing cricket on the front lawn, breading boxer dogs , going to your local cycle Meets , buying honey and local produce off the local farmers , enjoying pastries from the local bakery (mini pies) and doing a cricket camp with Darren Berry down the local cricket club. You would always drive me past a local country farm house and pointing out that it was Cliffy Young’s house and Australian ultra marathon runner and always be on the look to see if he was running down the country roads of Colac. Thank you for the memories 🙏🏼

  6. Ray the race has begun you and pat are lining up at the start line i know you will have each others back and the only problem you will have is whos finish first peddle peddle. No matter who wins your were both champions in my eyes .From the house in Rowville to the days down in rye these are the memories that are instilled. Listening to music dancing in the lounge room with the open fire place. Please save a seat in the grandstand so i can cheer when i get there. Hopefully dad and you can get the saints over the line this year. Condolences to Dale , Jan , Mark and Marianne . I know your baby girl will miss you but we will look after her

  7. Ray was a much valued volunteer at Colac Cycling Club events for many years. He loved the sport and loved being involved with and supporting Colac district cycling. He was always available and always a pleasure to work with. Without volunteers like Ray clubs like ours cannot survive. He will be missed. 9. Thank you Ray for being such a wonderful person to of known. From when we first met way back in 1989 when you were a customer of where I was working at the time, we became instant friends. From when I first became self employed towards the end of 1990 you were always encouraging in every way you could, giving countless advice and lending me your trailer whenever it was needed, to coffee's and chats and Friday night froffies. To the point that Helen called me your 'apprentice' you were always there for me as a mentor. From the highest of highs to the lowest of lows your opinion and encouragement was never swayed. You'd watch me play footy and give me pointers during the breaks, you and Helen came to our wedding and were around when our kids came into the world. From rocking it out with me at the Rod Stewart concert in 2002 to later times when you'd come to our home for roast tea and drinks. Always a pleasure to be in your company, rest easy me dear friend I'll miss you heaps. Love Darren, Julie, Maddy & Bronya Pyne
