Would like to share a story of the first time I met Michael.
Was staying at Emma's place & wasn't expecting anyone else to be there; was going through a difficult time with my own struggles. Crept out early the next morning for breakfast hoping that no one would be up & in walks Michael. I forget the first words that he said, but needless to say we were still talking 2 hours later. Had covered the whole gamut from AFL to cricket to music to history to fantasy literature - it was just what I needed. Was grateful to catch up with Michael again late last year.
In our discussions over the years, he taught me acceptance & will miss his kindness, his intelligence & his wonderful humour & drives with the car stereo blasting.Sending you all our love Leo & Tannar.
Love,
Justin, Christobel, Melian & Annette.May 03, 2020 11:19 pm

Dear Leo
I am so sorry for your loss and for the sadness you feel. I don't know if Michael was fond of the poetry of G M Hopkins but these words of, "As Kingfishers Catch Fire", speak to me of the Michael you so lovingly describe."Each mortal thing does one thing and the same; Deals out that being indoors each one dwells;
Selves - goes itself; myself it speaks and spells, Crying what I do is me: for that I came."Gaye Phillips

Still canโt believe Mr Bart has gone but I am positive he is now aboard his own amazing ship that is - as he wrote about in Mordredโs Coals - a โSea of Tranquilityโ.
No-one else calls me Twinners. And it wouldnโt sound right coming from anyone else anyway.
I loved Mr Bartโs F**k it attitude but also his inquisitiveness, his knowledge, his acceptance and his warmth.
We love you lots, Bex and family xxxApril 29, 2020 8:11 pm
My love and thoughts are with you Leo on this sad occasion.
It is fitting that so many good things have been stated so sincerely by many friends. Michael enriched all our lives and will be remembered as a thoughtful, kind and wonderful man.April 29, 2020 7:18 pm
Farewell dear Michael,
We met over 30 years ago in unusual circumstances and developed an extraordinary friendship. You were kind, funny and erudite, shining a light on matters of great importance.
It is sad knowing you are lost to this world.
Much love

Good-bye old friend. You were so creative, funny, kind, and compassionate. We met almost half a century ago, and I am so grateful that we re-connected this last decade. You enriched my life with your craft and art of writing. You were a lovely and beautiful person with an incredible inquisitive brain. I know you will be sorely missed.

I will miss you dearly.
I so wish that I could have spent more time with you.
You cared about so much that really mattered.

Dear Leo,
News of Michael leaving us has travelled.
I met him back in the 1980s. He was a clever, polite and reflective guy.
I haven't seen him since but these qualities were part of who he was.
Please accept my condolences. I am thinking of him and the family and what they must be going through.
Kind regards,
Paul Dudley
